Shy Wolf Sanctuary Education & Experience Center
We're excited to bring attention to the important work of wolf conversation with our fourth Sanctuary Spotlight! This month, we're partnering with Shy Wolf Sanctuary, a refuge dedicated to rescuing and caring for wolves, wolfdogs, and other exotic animals. Join us in supporting their vital mission to protect these incredible animals and ensure their future in the wild.
Established in 1993, Shy Wolf Sanctuary became a non-profit organization in Naples, Florida, that dedicated their efforts to the rescue and care of wolves, wolfdogs, and other exotic animals. They have grown into a safe haven for misunderstood and often mistreated animals. Their mission extends beyond rescue—it's about rehabilitation, sanctuary, and education, fostering a deep connection between humans and the wild.
Shy Wolf Sanctuary was founded by Nancy Smith, who initially took in abandoned wolfdogs as pets, quickly realizing the need for a specialized sanctuary to care for these animals. Many of the residents surrendered after their owners realized they couldn’t handle the responsibilities that come with keeping wolves and wolfdogs as pets. The sanctuary steps in when animals face abandonment, abuse, or neglect, offering them a forever home in an environment that meets their complex physical and emotional needs.
At the heart of Shy Wolf Sanctuary's work is their mission to provide a safe and enriching space for these animals while educating the public about their care and conservation. Through tours, educational outreach, and animal encounters, they seek to dispel myths about wolves and wolfdogs, highlighting the vital role these creatures play in the natural ecosystem. The sanctuary’s work helps raise awareness about the consequences of breeding wolves with domestic dogs and the importance of respecting wildlife.
Shy Wolf Sanctuary thrives largely due to the support of over 80 dedicated volunteers and donations. They offer several ways for people to get involved, including volunteering to help with animal care, assisting with educational programs, or even sponsoring an animal. Volunteers are a crucial part of the sanctuary's daily operations, helping to provide food, enrichment, and clean enclosures for the animals. Monetary donations are also essential in maintaining the sanctuary and expanding their rescue efforts.
For the entire month of October, Highway Wolf is donating 100% of proceeds from purchases of their Sanctuary Merch Bundle to Shy Wolf Sanctuary Education & Experience Center. "As musicians, we have the opportunity to reach people in a unique way, and it means a lot to us to use our platform to spread the word about the amazing work being done by organizations like the Shy Wolf Sanctuary to rescue and care for these animals,” Mick says, “We’re proud to help raise awareness and contribute to their mission.” Highway Wolf invites music fans and animal lovers to support Shy Wolf Sanctuary Education & Experience Center by donating, becoming a volunteer or visiting the sanctuary.
